Associate Accidents and Injuries

Overview

Under the Worker's Compensation Act, compensation for injury arising in the course of your employment is provided. This program covers the costs that arise when you are injured while at work. Benefits vary state by state, but generally, your medical expenses are covered along with a portion of your lost wages, if you are unable to return to work.

All on-the-job accidents, whether a claim is made or not, must be reported immediately to your manager and to either your Benefits or Human Resources Consultant (HRC).

If you sustain an on-the-job injury, you are responsible for the following:

  • Reporting the incident immediately to your manager/supervisor
  • Seeking appropriate medical treatment with the assistance of your manager/supervisor and Benefits team
  • Completing any forms or statements that are required by the Bank
  • Obtaining and providing to your manager/supervisor and Benefits a physician's statement regarding your ability to return to work
  • Following the physician's treatment plan and any restrictions
  • Attending all medical appointments related to your injury or claim
  • Reporting any changes in your medical status
  • Communicating with your Claim team, the individuals involved in your rehabilitation, claim, and return-to-work process
  • Obtaining a full duty release from your physician when medically able

Seeking Treatment

Your manager/supervisor, along with the Benefits team, will assist you in obtaining appropriate medical treatment, depending on the severity of the situation. They will provide you with any necessary paperwork or forms and can help you complete them, should you need assistance.

If the physician orders temporary restrictions to return to work, you must follow his/her instructions carefully, both at home and at work, to avoid re-injury.

Return to Work

The Bank is committed to offering injured associates active and continued participation in the workforce during your rehabilitation process, whenever possible.

You have the opportunity to gradually return to regular work or be granted time for reconditioning to the demands of your position through a modified schedule. Job requirements will be coordinated with your manager and physician.

Where appropriate, you may be offered an alternative work arrangement, either in your department or in a different department. Alternative or modified work is limited to a specific duration and is designed to help you reach your pre-injury status in a safe and timely manner.
