Loan Late Fees and Grace Periods

The grace period is a length of time after the loan payment due date has passed and before the late fee is assessed.

Not all loans have the same late fee rates or grace periods. When a client signs their loan agreement, the late fee rate is listed as part of their terms and conditions.

Note: If the loan has a CCHL designation on it, please refer that client to our friends at Capital City Home Loans (CCHL) at 855.232.8519.

Locate Late Fee Assessment

  • In Xperience > Customer and Account Inquiry, locate the client's loan account.
  • In Related Functions, click Documents/Image Inquiry
  • Click on the NOTES item.
    • This will show exactly what the client signed and agreed to, including the late fee.

Below are 4 common loan types and where to locate the late fee agreement line within the actual Note. Typically for Direct, Indirect and HELOCs, the late fee is 5% of the current amount owed FOR THAT BILLING CYCLE (not the balance on the loan).

  • Indirect Loan Note:

    • Located on the first page of note.

Grace Periods

Shown below is a list of Capital City Bank loan types (based off of numbered codes), the length of their Grace Period, and where to find code for the loan type the client is inquiring about.

  1. In Xperience > Customer & Account Inquiry, locate the client's loan account.
  2. On the Account Inquiry tab, click the Payment tab.
  3. Locate the Late Charge Type code.
  4. Use the reference table above to find the grace period length.

For example: In the loan shown below, there is a 003 Code. According to the table above, the Grace Period for this loan type is 10 days. The late fee for this loan will be applied on the 10th day that the loan is late.

Note: A great way to discuss Grace Periods with the client is:

“Ms. Abbott, based on the loan type you have, you would not receive a late fee until the 10th day after the loan is due. You have a NINE DAY GRACE PERIOD with the late fee being assessed on the 10th day.”
