Title

A Title is a document that states:

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN #)
  • Year, Make and Model
  • Owner
  • Existing lien holder

A Title is required when the loan is:

  • Secured by a vehicle
  • Secured by a mobile home
  • Secured by real estate with a mobile home located on the property
  • Secured by a boat
  • Secured by a trailer weighing more than 2,000 lbs.

 

If being purchased from a dealership:

Contact dealership:

  • Identify how the Borrower will be taking title.  For example: John Smith OR John B Smith and/or Sara Smith
  • Advise dealership Capital City Bank’s lien is to be placed on the title
 
 

If being purchased from an individual:

Paper Title 

  • Obtain original title from seller
  • Seller MUST execute 2 Powers of Attorney
  • Verify there is not an existing lien on the title.
    • Alabama contact a lending associate in the Troupe/Chambers Market
    • Florida you may go to the following web site: https://services.flhsmv.gov/mvcheckweb/
    • Georgia call the county tax commissioner’s office
  • If existing lien, obtain a copy of title and payoff from lien holder

Florida – no existing lien

  • Seller must obtain the paper title

Florida E-TITLE – existing lien

  • Verify lien holder information at: https://services.flhsmv.gov/mvcheckweb/
  • Seller MUST execute 2 Powers of Attorney
  • Submit payoff to existing lien holder and request lien satisfaction letter be mailed to Lender name and office address.
  •  Verify existing lien holder has been removed from status at: https://services.flhsmv.gov/mvcheckweb/
  • Obtain printout of information indicating no lien holder.
 
 

If owned by Borrower or no transfer of title required:

Paper Title – no existing lien

  • Obtain original title from borrower
  • Verify there is not an existing lien on the title

    • Georgia call the county tax commissioner’s office
  • If existing lien, obtain a copy of title and payoff from lien holder

Florida E-TITLE - no existing lien

Once completed, the Title, either paper or printout from DMV (E-title) should be uploaded to Synergy (consumer purpose) or Abrigo (business purpose).

After the loan has closed:

Paper Title- No transfer of title required 

  • Original Title
  • Original Application for Notice of Lien (FL) or Title/Tag Application (AL/GA)
  • Check made payable to the _____________ County Tax Collector
    • Lien fees vary by county.  Check with the county tax collector’s office to verify the lien fee.
  • Mail to the County Tax Collector's office

  • Printout from https://services.flhsmv.gov/mvcheckweb/
  • Original Application for Notice of Lien (FL)
  • Check made payable to the _____________ County Tax Collector

  • Power of Attorney from the Seller
  • Power of Attorney from the Purchaser

    • Check with the county tax collector’s office to verify fees, which include but may not be limited to:
      • Lien fees
      • Transfer Fee
      • Sales Taxes
      • Tag fee

  • Driver’s License data for the Purchaser
  • Check made payable to the _____________ County Tax Collector
    • Check with the county tax collector’s office to verify fees, which include but may not be limited to:
      • Lien fees
      • Transfer Fee
      • Sales Taxes
      • Tag fee
