A resident alien is a non-citizen residing in the US who:
- Holds an Alien Registration Receipt card, commonly known as a Green card, representing approval from the US government to remain in the US for an indefinite period of time (also referred to as a permanent resident)
- Meets the Substantial Presence Test (SPT) for tax purposes
