Overview
You can accept and place stop payments when the request is received in person, by fax, or by phone. Stop payments cannot be placed on debit card transactions.
Tell the client that if the check amount or payee/originator is not exactly correct, the bank is not liable for the stop payment on the item.
- Verify the client’s identification by using one of the following:

Identification: CSC Phone Procedures
- Clients requesting stop payment by phone require the Inquiry ID Code or 3 forms of identification.
- Phone requests MUST indicate "per client phone request" in the signature field of the Stop Payment Form.
- Clients in person
- If requested by fax - access the signature card to compare the signature on the fax to the signature on the account signature card. Continue only if the signature is valid. Do not process the stop payment if unable to verify the signature on the fax.

- Determine the type of stop payment needed.
- Look up client's account.
- If the client has bounce protection with at least $35 available for the stop payment fee, proceed with Stop Payment Procedures - Step 6

If the client does NOT have bounce protection or has bounce protection, but less than $35,
- Tell the client he/she must deposit $35 to cover the stop payment fee.
- Tell the client you cannot perform a stop payment until this happens.
- Review the client’s account history to verify the item has not posted to the account.
- In Xperience, click Customer & Account Inquiry.
- Search for the account.
- Click History.
- From the item drop-down menu, choose Checks or EFT.
- View the listing.
- If a stop payment is being requested on an item that appears in memo post and has not hard posted, email _Stop Payment to request the return of the item and to notify them that a stop payment request is still required.
- Advise the client that the bank cannot guarantee an item in memo post can be returned.
- Click on the appropriate tab to issue a stop payment depending on the item type.
Single Check
Note: Stop payments on paper checks expire after 6 months from the date of issuance. The client must authorize the expiration on the Stop Payment form by initialing the expiration statement on the form.

Range of Checks
Note: Stop payments on paper checks expire after 6 months from the date of issuance. The client must authorize the expiration on the stop payment form by initialing the expiration statement on the form.

Single ACH/EFT Debit
Note: Stop payments on single ACH/EFT debits expire only if the client authorizes the expiration. If the client requests the stop payment to expire, the client must authorize the expiration on the Stop Payment form by initialing the expiration statement on the Stop Payment form.

Future ACH/EFT Debit
Note: A stop payment on future/recurring ACH debits stops ACH debits to the originator listed in the Originator field and Remarks field on the Stop Payment screen. Stop payments on future/recurring ACH/EFT debits can be placed for a specific amount or to stop all ACH amounts to that originator.
These stops expire only if the client authorizes the expiration. If the client requests the stop payment to expire, the client must authorize the expiration by initialing the expiration statement on the Stop Payment form.

Unauthorized Paper Draft
Note: Stop payments on unauthorized paper drafts expire after 6 months. The client must authorize the expiration by initialing the expiration statement on the Stop Payment form.
