Changing Client Status to Deceased

When a Client Dies

Note: Do not mail copies of the service event and supporting documentation to Deposit Services.

  1. Accept the notification of the client’s death only from a reputable source such as the joint account owner, a known relative of the client, or an associate from the funeral home handling the services. (After receiving phone notification, verify with a  death certificate).
  2. Create the Synapsys service event DS – Deceased Client
  3. Scan and attach the following items to the service event:
    • Certified copy of the death certificate
    • All other supporting documents received
  4. Send the service event to Deposit Services.
  5. Deposit Services associates complete maintenance to the decedent’s CIF record and any other required account maintenance.

The following arrangements end immediately upon the death of the client:

  • Power-of-attorney
  • Convenience signers
  • Guardianship

Individuals in these roles or with these powers lose all access and control over the account when the client dies.
