Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) regulations require us to wait 90 days from the date of the check before we can reissue or refund the amount of a lost, stolen, or destroyed cashier’s check to the remitter or payee claimant. After the waiting period, we can reissue the check or refund the amount of the check without being obligated to pay the original check.
Clients who present the original physical cashier's check can request a replacement (reissue) or refund of a cashier's check without waiting the 90 days from the date of the original check.
Note: E-mail _ESRecon Group to determine if the official check has not been paid. Do not continue until you receive confirmation that the check has not paid from the ESRecon Group. If it has already been paid, stop. You cannot continue.
To replace, reissue, or refund a cashier's check physically presented, do the following:
Replacement (Reissue)
Clients who return a cashier's check to the bank and ask for a replacement will be charged a fee for the replacement cashier's check. For applicable fees, see the Other Services and Fees brochure.
To replace (reissue) the cashier's check, do the following:
- Determine the identity of the client in person.
- On the back of the original cashier's check:
- Obtain the client’s endorsement (signature)
- Write Not Used for Purpose Intended
- Encourage the client to accept a money order as a replacement for the cashier's check. See Issuing Money Orders for procedures.
- If the client would like a replacement cashier's check, see Issuing Cashier's Checks for procedures.
- Ensure the client reviews the replacement cashier's check for accuracy.
- Have the client sign the printed replacement cashier's check on the signature line.
- An authorized associate must also sign the signature line and include his/her 4-digit employee ID# beside his/her signature. See Official Bank Check Authorization procedures.
- Tear off the top portion of the replacement cashier’s check (credit copy).
- Give the client the printed replacement cashier’s check and client copy (center and bottom portion).
- Stack and place these items in the teller work to run:
- The official check fee GL credit memo
- The cashier’s check credit copy
- The original cashier’s check with endorsement
Refund
Clients can return a cashier's check to the bank and ask for a refund.
To refund a cashier's check do the following:
- Determine the identity of the client in person.
- On the back of the original cashier's check:
- Obtain the client’s endorsement (signature)
- Write Not Used for Purpose Intended
- Complete the following information on the appropriate checking/savings deposit ticket:
- Date
- Client Name
- Amount to be refunded (amount of original money order minus fee)
- Client account number

- Accompany the client to the teller line to process the refund. A deposit receipt is provided to the client.
NOTE: Only refund the original cost of the cashier's check. Do not refund the cashier's check fee.
