Get the Most out of Your Virtual Experience

Troubleshooting

If something goes wrong, click one of the accordions below.

Zoom spins but doesn't load

When this happens, Zoom needs an update. Use the LanDesk Portal to download the update using these instructions:

    1. Click the Windows Start Icon. The Start menu opens.

    2. Type Portal. The Start menu changes to the Search menu as you type.

    3. Click Portal Manager.

    4. The Portal Manager displays a list of available apps.

    5. Scroll to the bottom of the page. 

    6. Click Zoom Meeting Viewer to download. 


Users working remotely and who are not on VPN can update Zoom from the client. 

    1. In the Zoom client, click your profile picture or avatar. A menu displays.

    2. Click Check for Updates.

    3. If an update is available, the window states Update Available! The download process will begin and a red bar shows the progress. 

    4. To open the Zoom installer, click Update. Zoom updates and launches the new version when finished.

Audio Issues


Sometimes you hear audio from others, but they can't hear you.  This happens when something is amiss with your audio.  Do one of the following:

  • Check that your audio isn't on mute.
  • If using a headset, unplug, and test with the computer microphone.


To change your audio settings, click the ^ next to the microphone.  Do one of the following:

  • Check your microphone selection. Select Microphone Array
  • Use the Test Speaker and Microphone feature to check capability
  • If your computer audio is not working, Switch to Phone Audio
    • When you call in, use the participant code to sync your audio.
    • Your line will be on mute. Press *6 on your phone to unmute.


Before Your Session Begins

Prepare for your Zoom session by doing and being ready to do the following: 


One Week Before Immediately Before
Create a free account at Zoom.us using your bank email. Know the ground rules.
To help everyone gain the most from the virtual experience, follow these ground rules:
  • Be 15 minutes early, just in case
  • Disconnect from VPN and close any non-essential programs to improve your computer's performance
  • Connect with computer audio and video
  • Remove distractions from your environment; close your door if possible
Download the latest Zoom client (app). 

Like most software, Zoom updates regularly, so please test your version a few days before the session. See the Troubleshooting section if you run into a snag. 

Test your video and audio capability. 

Log in to Zoom, and click New Meeting to start a meeting. You will be in your private meeting room. 

Collect the login details.

Access virtual session details through one of the following ways:

  • Calendar invite – The link is the location in the body of the invite
  • StarU Online > Enrolled Courses – On the course, click Open and then Join.
During the Session
Be present and participate.
  • This is a face-to-face professional development activity. Sharing video is expected.
  • Be prepared to engage with the presenter – you will have several opportunities to actively participate and time to ask questions.

Tips for a Good Experience

  • Show your face. Zoom is a great way to connect with co-workers and clients. Part of the experience is being virtually face-to-face.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Try to avoid locations with high-traffic, distractions, background noise, or poor lighting,  
  • Maximize your connection and audio performance. When working remotely, stop any other high-bandwidth activities on your home networks, such as gaming, streaming, or downloads from other devices.

Features and Functions

Follow these instructions to get the most out of the virtual experience.

Download the Zoom client (app)

To download the Zoom client (app), do the following: 

  • On Bank computers and laptops, download from the Portal Manager. See the Troubleshooting section.
  • From a phone, tablet, or other devices,  visit your favorite app store to download.

Join Session

Join Zoom from any device (for example: desktop, laptop, phone, tablet) that has a camera and microphone using the link provided by the meeting host.  

If you are joining from a web browser, use Google Chrome.

Tip: If your default browser is Internet Explorer, copy the Zoom link and paste it into the address bar of Google Chrome to join.  

Start/Stop Audio or Video

Audio and video controls are on the left bottom of the screen.

To turn on your audio, click Unmute. To mute yourself, click Mute.

To start your video, click Start Video. To stop it, click Stop Video

To access audio or video settings, click the ^ beside the microphone or camera icons.

Chat

To send a chat message to the entire group, do the following:

  1. Click Chat in the bottom ribbon.
  2. Type your message.
  3. Press Enter to send.


To send a chat message to a specific member of the group, do the following:

  1. Use the down arrow next to the Everyone to open the drop-down menu. 
  2. Select the name.
  3. Type your message.  
  4. Press Enter to send.

Your View/Display

There are several views in Zoom. The most common are:

  • Gallery – Small boxes with video. This is the default view.
  • Speaker – Speaker video covers much of the window with smaller video windows in a ribbon above. As participants speak up, the current speaker is moved to the center.
  • Screen share – The main meeting window displays the shared content. The video window pops out in a new window.
  • Side-by-Side – Shared content occupies two-thirds of the screen. The video windows are anchored to the right side of the meeting window.


Change view during a screen share

To see both the shared content and video windows in one screen, do the following: 

  1. Click the down arrow next to View Options.
  2. Select Side-by-side mode.


To change how many videos show in side-by-side mode, do one of the following:

  • Click Gallery View to see more.
  • Click Speaker View to see only the speaker.


To change the view of video windows in pop-out mode, use the window controls.

  • Minimize all videos
  • View speaker's video only
  • View a vertical list of video windows
  • Gallery view of video windows

Change view without screen sharing

Video windows are forefront during a Zoom session without screen sharing. To change your view of the windows, do one of the following:

  • To view all of the video windows arranged in a grid, click Gallery View .
  • To see a larger speaker window and smaller ribbon of other video windows,  click Speaker View

Participant List

To open a list of attendees, in the bottom ribbon, click Participants

Interact

You can interact with the presenter during a meeting without interrupting the presentation from the Participants window. Use these buttons to interact:


Change Video Background

Users with at least a free Zoom account can change their video background to a picture of their choice. Note: Some Bank computers do not have this capability. 

To use a virtual background, do the following:

  1. From the Stop Video drop-down menu, select Choose Virtual Background.
  2. Click the + and select Add Image or Video.
  3. Select or upload an image to use. The background changes to your desired image,
  4. Close the Settings window.
