There are provisions for the disposition of funds when the depositor dies without a will and had $5000 or less on deposit in a bank in Alabama or $15,000 or less on deposit in a bank in Georgia.
When you receive an in-person request for the payment of account balances for intestate depositors, do the following:
- Determine if the following conditions are met for the CCB depositor:
- Died without a will
- Had one of the following:
- $5,000 or less on deposit in a bank in Alabama
- $15,000 or less on deposit in a bank in Georgia
- Obtain the corresponding form:
- Fill in the form and have it notarized.
- Change the depositor status to deceased.
- Check to see if the funds recently deposited are subject to reclamation.
- In the case of multiple beneficiaries, do the following:
- Divide the funds equally.
- If only one beneficiary is present, then distribute his/her portion to him/her. The account remains open. The other beneficiaries must come to receive their portions.
- In the case of one beneficiary, do the following:
- Distribute the funds to him/her.
- Close the account.
