Official checks that are unpaid for an extended dormancy period are considered unclaimed property and must be escheated to the state. Before an official check is escheated, Capital City Bank sends a due diligence letter to the account holder's last known address. To reclaim funds and avoid funds being transferred to the state, clients are advised to contact our offices within 30 days of the date of the letter.
Clients who contact our offices can request the official check item to be be reissued. Reissued official check items must be made payable exactly as the original check item was issued.
