Do not open accounts for incarcerated individuals, either existing clients or potential clients. CCB only services existing accounts of clients who were clients prior to their incarceration.
Also, do not communicate with incarcerated clients by phone. Existing clients that have been incarcerated must send CCB their requests in writing, and this correspondence must include the inmate's current facility address and inmate ID number.
Contact Call me Direct ext. 7100 for assistance with incarcerated client requests.
Once incarcerated, clients must choose one of the following options for their accounts:
- Close the account. See the Closed Account procedures.
- Keep the account by adding a Power of Attorney (POA) to the account.
- Keep the account by adding a joint signer.
- Note: Joint signer cannot be added until the signature card is returned with the incarcerated client signature
When you are notified that an existing client has been incarcerated, do the following:
-
Place a message on the CIF and account level with no expiration date. Use the format below when creating the message:
- Client was incarcerated as of XX/XX/XX. Action XXXX will be taken. (For example: Client was incarcerated as of 09/17/17. Joint signer will be added and updated signature card is in process as of 09/19/17.)
-
Update the address to include the current facility address and inmate ID number.
- Mail a letter to the client requesting the name and other personal information of the party being added either in joint capacity or as a POA. The account owner must authorize these changes.
- If the party being added is an existing client, do the following:
- Create the signature card.
- Mail it to the incarcerated client to sign.
- Include Acknowledgement Certificate (FLORIDA or ALABAMA-GEORGIA) which requires a notary since the signature will be obtained without a CCB associate as a witness.
- Once the client returns the card, obtain the signature of the added party.
- If the party being added is not an existing client, do the following:
- Obtain the letter and the personal identifying documents in person.
- Add the person to the account.
- Create the signature card.
- The new party arranges to have the incarcerated client sign and return.
