Reopening Charged-off Accounts

You can reopen a charged-off personal, business, fiduciary, Demand Deposit Account (DDA), or savings account if the client pays the charged-off amount in full. Do not run a ChexSystems inquiry.

Once the account has been paid in full and any funds being held are released, do the following to reopen the account:

  1. In Xperience > Customer & Account Inquiry
  2. Search by client Tax ID or SSN.
  3. Review accounts to ensure all charge-off balances are collected.
  4. Click the account number for the account.
  5. Review the account type.  Note: Reopened accounts must be placed in a current product type.
  6. Update the Client Information File (CIF) record with the latest client information.
    • Xperience > Silverlake > CIF Menu >Change Customer Information
  7. To review the account for a current signature card, from the Customer & Account Inquiry tab, click Related Functions > Document/Image Inquiry. Note: If no card is on file or the card needs to be updated, prepare a new signature card for the client and have the client sign it.
  8. To request the account be reopened and the status updated to active, click CRM to create the following Synapsys Service Event:
    • Deposit Services > DS – Reopen Account
    • Enter the Account Number
    • In the Select Current Product Type field, choose a current product type for the reopened account
      • Note: If a client wants to reopen into an Empower Checking Account you DO NOT choose the EP - Empower Checking - you must open a new account for this product type.
    • Click Save > Save and Submit Session
  9. Submit the documents using eSign.
  10. Place the documents not submitted via eSign with the daily work for imaging following the Document Imaging Procedures.
