If the client has lost his/her check book, and the client can provide specific check numbers, then do the following:
- Load a stop payment on the range of checks numbers following the New Stop Payment procedures. Note: Leave blank any field not identified.
- In the Stop Type S field, enter Single ACH or Paper Check.
- In the Remarks (Reason) field, enter the reason for the stop payment.
- In the First Check Number field, enter the client's beginning check number.
- In the Last Check Number field, enter the client's last check number.
When a client’s check book has been stolen, the risk of fraudulent activity is much greater than when the check book has been lost. To protect the client and the bank from future fraud, close the account. Do the following:
- If the client’s identification was stolen, see Handling Identity Theft.
- Close the account following the Close Account – DDA Account with Fraud procedure.
- Open a new account as applicable:
- Personal account
- Fiduciary account
- Business account
- Assist the client with changing any EFT debits, credits, or drafts so that these items post to the new account.
- If only the routing and account have been compromised , switch the debit card(s) to the new account by completing this Synapsys service event: Card Maintenance.
