Teller opening and closing procedures are designed to provide the highest degree of safety for associates. Failure to follow procedures puts you and other associates at risk. Any associate opening an office alone acknowledges and accepts the potential risks associated with the practice. Associates also acknowledge the importance of complying with related procedures to ensure the safety of other associates.

It is important for a teller to be organized at the beginning of their workday. Before your first client approaches your window, complete the following tasks:
- Obtain your teller drawer.
- Teller drawers are stored in a dual control vault overnight.
- Sign on to your teller workstation computer.
- Open and organize your cash supply.
- Request additional currency/coin when necessary.
- Arrange your work area ensuring you have appropriate CCB forms and supplies.
- Set your teller stamp to the correct (today's) date.
Teller Closing Procedures End of Day
Associates are responsible for securing their cash drawer in the office vault each night. Saturday cash drawers must be locked in a dual control vault or the dual control night depository.
To secure your Cash Drawer (currency and coin) at the end of the day, do the following:- Place the following in the cash box:
- All strapped and loose bills
- Teller stamp
- Lock the cash box lid.
- Place the locked cash box in the office vault. Note: if applicable, an office can use a fire-proof/office vault that is kept outside the main vault.
- Lock the following in your teller station coin locker:
- Loose coins
- Wrapped coins
- DO NOT lock your teller station drawer overnight.
- Lock the following in the vault each night:
- All negotiable or valuable items (Cashier's Check, Money Order)
- Night depository bags containing cash
- Daily scanned items
Teller stations and night depository areas are required to be inspected by the Lead Teller (LT) and another associate prior to closing the vault at the end of the day. If the LT is unavailable, or the office does not have a LT, 2 associates must inspect under dual control.
- Check teller drawers (open the drawer to verify contents)
- Check coin locker (verify door is locked)
- Check the night depository (verify door is locked)
- Verify nothing of value is left out or unlocked
- If currency or coin is found unsecured in a teller station, it must be counted under dual control, secured in a sealed bag, and locked in the vault overnight. If the LT or Client Experience Manager (CXM/CXMII) is not present at the time of the incident, it must be reported the next day to the LT or CXM/CXMII.
