CCB Account Services

Bounce Protection, Sweep Services, Positive Pay, CCB Issued Checks

Bounce protection, sweeps, positive pay, and CCB issued checks are all CCB account services available to clients. See the tabs below for additional details.

Bounce Protection

Bounce Protection (BP) is a non-contractual overdraft privilege limit for consumer and business checking clients. BP allows a client to enter into an overdraft position without having insufficient items returned. When an overdraft is covered by the BP limit for the account, the client is charged an insufficient item fee for each item paid. See Bounce Protection Qualifications here.

BP limits are assigned by product type for each eligible account. Eligible clients automatically receive the service after the initial 45-day wait period. A client having more than one checking account may have BP on each account.

The BP limits are:

  • Consumer - $300, $500, $750
  • Business - $500, $750

When an item presented at the teller window invokes the BP limit, the following message displays: BOUNCE PROTECTION XXXXXXXXXX D AVAIL BAL IS EXCEEDED

This message requires an override (for example: teller or supervisor). Other overrides may be applicable.

Individual presenting the check is the account owner:

  • The teller should inform the client the item will pay within the BP limit; however there will be an overdraft item fee assessed unless a deposit is made to the account.

  • The transaction may be canceled or deleted if the account owner does not want to invoke the BP limit.

  • The teller is not responsible for charging clients an NSF fee for using their Bounce Protection.

Individual presenting the check is not the account owner:

  • If sufficient funds are in the available balance due to the BP limit, the check can be cashed.

Sweep Services

The Automatic Transfer Overdraft Protection service (Sweep) allows clients with Capital City Bank (CCB) checking accounts to pre-authorize the transfer from another CCB checking or savings account for overdraft protection.

Sweeps are set up between 2 accounts, a parent account (funding account) and a child account (receiving account). Clients can have up to nine child accounts per parent account. Sweeps can not be established so that both accounts cover one another.

Example: Sweep for account A to cover account B cannot also have a Sweep for account B to cover account A.

When cashing a check on an account set up with Sweep Services, the check will verify against the combined available balances of the primary and secondary accounts. A sweep message displays for the teller to verify the balances of each account: ACCOUNT XXXXXXXXXX D HAS SWEEPS Press F4 for details

The check may be cashed as long as the transaction does not exceed the available balance of both accounts. Other overrides may be applicable.

Positive Pay Services

Positive Pay is an anti-fraud service provided through the Treasury Management Department to business clients. The service provides fraud prevention to business clients who issue a large number of checks either presented at the teller line or through nightly processing.

The client provides the bank with a data file of all checks they issue. The file includes: issue status (for example: valid, voided, dormant, cleared), check number and amount. When a check is presented for payment, the information is verified against the positive pay file.

When cashing a check drawn on an account with positive pay services, the teller receives the following message:

Positive Pay Account. Check Number Required

Enter the check number in the instrument field. The system verifies the check number and amount, as they are entered in the instrument and amount fields.

If the check number and/or amount do not verify to the positive pay file, a message is received. Do not cash the check. Refer to the Action column for further procedures. Other overrides may be applicable.

The client should forward the check information to the Relationship Officer or their assistant in writing.

The Officer/assistant should e-mail the information to _EBanking.

If there is time, Electronic Banking Services will load the check in the file.

If the check is not loaded into the file, the Officer or assistant must approve the check and must initial the top left corner of the check.

The check must have the account Officer or assistant initials in the top left corner of the check to be cashed.

If a positive pay check is not in the file and the account officer or assistant is not available to initial or approve the check, the Client Experience Manager (CXM/CXMII), Lead Teller (LT) must:

  • Contact the client.
  • Have written documentation form the client indicating the check number, the amount and payee.

CCB Issued Checks

Capital City Bank (CCB) issued checks are authorized for payment through the CCB Positive Pay system on the day following the issue date. On occasion these checks are presented for cash on the day they are issued and the transaction processing system will not recognize the check as valid.

When a CCB check is presented for cash on the day it is issued, do the following:

  1. Verify Money Orders and Cashier's Checks in the online Check Register. The associate (user) who issued the check is displayed in the screen, contact the associate for verification.
  2. All other bank checks must be verified by calling the department that issued the item. Note on the check the name of the associate that verified the check as valid.
  3. When the check is cashed according to procedures for a positive pay account, the check will not be recognized as a valid item and cannot be cashed without a supervisor override.
  4. The account number is required in the Account field, and a supervisor override is required.
